The way to your sucessful participation
Tips and Tricks
To ensure that the audition is performed by the actual participant, an introduction must be made at the beginning of the video.
The introduction must be clearly spoken into the camera.
The introduction can be spoken by the actual participant or by another person, in either case the face of the participant must be clearly visible.
If the introduction is made by another person, this person may not be visible or audible during the rest of the recording.
The introduction includes the code word, first name and surname of the player, composer and title or movement designation of the piece.
The introduction should be made in English or German. We will, however, accept any other language as well.
Switch your phone to flight mode before you begin recording to avoid receiving calls or interference.
Make sure that no background noise will drown out the piano playing. Are doors and windows closed?
Please check the resolution of your video camera before recording the video. The video resolution should be between 720p and 1080p. Please do not send in 4K videos! It is the quality of the sound, not the picture, that is important.

For better sound quality, it is recommended that you adjust the microphone sensitivity manually. The automatic microphone control often makes a piano sound louder and a forte softer than actually played. This results in unwanted "dynamic jumps".
Unfortunately, pre-installed mobile phone apps usually do not allow manual microphone control.
However, there are photo and video apps that offer this option - e.g. filmic pro
This app is available for Android and IOS.
On a computer or laptop the microphone sensitivity can usually be adjusted without any problems.

On a scale of 1 - 10, microphone sensitivity is usually recommended at a level 5 or 6. Play a very loud chord to test and pay attention to the level of the microphone indicator. This should be in the upper third, but should not reach the maximum.
Use a microphone for an even better sound result.

- Zoom offers clip-on microphones with the models iQ6 and iQ7 for iphones. They work easily with the integrated camera app.
- The Rode NT-USB-Mini can also be connected to other devices.
- There are suited microphones from Shure and Sennheiser, too.
With all these microphones, sensitivity can be adjusted directly on the microphone
Audio recorders can also be used as microphones in most cases, if they are connected to a mobile phone, computer or another camera.
With just a few clicks, they then function as a so-called audio interface.
