Matteo Weber at the piano

To open the EUPLAYY prize-winner concerts, Matteo Weber, a prize-winner of the first EUPLAYY competition in 2020, played at the Festival Musicales de Normandie in Rouen on 29 August 2020. The concert was one of the prizes of the 2020 competition.

On the programme was the premiere of the Sonata for piano by the French composer Thierry Pécou. In his preface, Pécou describes the work as built around ten-note chords made of successive perfect fifths, which he calls “accords-lumière” (chords of light). The idea comes from the ten emanations of light in the Kabbalah, yet the piece follows no programme and remains abstract: a virtuoso piece that uses the full range of the piano.
